Antelope Canyon is a "slot canyon". It is like the place in the movie 27 Hours or something. Water from miles away all comes together from thunderstorms and converges on this one small opening (see where Rick is in photo). Then it swirls through creating unbelievable sculptures and corkscrews. When the sun shines through the small openings at the top, you get the vibrant colors in the canyon.
About 4 times a year flash floods come through this canyon.
The water usually comes about 4 feet high, but can be up to 12-18 feet high. A few years ago, twelve people were killed during a flash flood in this canyon.
To get to this canyon we got to go top speed 4 wheeling through soft sand, ridges and bumps. No one fell off.
Retirement brings on the bucket list! Rick has always wanted to take his home built plane (took 7 years to build) across country, and now he has the time to do so. Let's just hope this doesn't trip take 7 years! So we are leaving Monk behind and following the path less traveled.
